Awake half the night due to lions roaring very close to camp
and certainly not the night to get jippy tummy but eventually lions or no lions
we had no choice but to get up. In the
morning we drove around the kopje and found the pride of lions happily tucking
into breakfast!
Morning spent driving slowly northwards rhino spotting – we
had literally given up when we saw a group of safari trucks and there was an
elusive black rhino. Similarly just as
we got to Seronera, there were dozens of safari trucks with everyone watching a
leopard in a tree. So a bit
disappointing that we didn’t spot them ourselves but at least we did see them
and having seen almost no wildlife yesterday we saw the big five all before
lunch today.
At Seronera we restocked on water and fuel –
no-one self drives in Tanzania we have discovered so nowhere to buy any fresh
food though. Asked in the tourist office
where our campsite for the night was but he had no idea, so we set off looking
for the Sero Extra. After an hour we
headed back to the Tourist office and this time found the Head of the Tourist
Office – apparently Extra just means they will try to find you something when
you arrive! So we headed off with the
Head of the Tourist Office and a Balloon Safari Driver (so he could find us in
the morning) so find a place to camp literally in the middle of nowhere next to
a tree. By the time we had taken the
guys back to base and retraced our steps to our camping spot, it was pretty
late and a storm was brewing so no tea tonight.
