Relieved to find the roads had dried out when we set off for
the long journey towards Lusaka. Ian
was delighted when we finally got to see a train and the railway line.
Stopped on the way at the Fig Tree Café outside Kabwe for
lunch – a lovely little café that was clearly popular with locals and tourists
alike.
The Fringilla campsite was quite noisy as not only was it
next to the main road but it was on a busy working farm so we were not
expecting a good night’s sleep. We opted
to spend the evening in the bar and eat in the restaurant rather than bothering
to unpack our cooking kit. Ended up
spending much of the evening chatting to 4 other campers – 2 from South Africa
and 2 from UK. The couple from the UK
were fascinating as they turned out to be a previous Lord and Lady Mayor of
London and had travelled all over Africa in their youth. They were keen to get a download of our trip
around Zambia and Malawi as they were heading off having made no plans at all.
