On the road again for 5 am heading back into Soussevlei but
this time to do the touristy thing of climbing Dune 45 and watching the sunrise
over the dunes. By the time we arrived a truck of overlanders had started the
ascent so we were right in the middle of the long trail of youngsters climbing
the ridge. They clearly knew more than
us though as they were climbing in bare feet so we kicked off our boots and
joined them – much easier! We reached
the top in plenty of time to watch the sun rising – really beautiful.
Headed back to Sesriem for breakfast – luckily we were not
in a hurry as service was leisurely! The
drive down to Namibrand was over old ground and is through some fantastic
scenery. We arrived at camp somewhat
early though but as no-one was around we just set up and enjoyed the view of
our exclusive waterhole (about 20 yards from our camp!).
We had enjoyed about an hour of the sunshine when the storm
clouds suddenly appeared and we were forced to spend the afternoon in the
Landrover watching the lightening and rain.
On the positive side this was the first rain for the area this year and
the rain is definitely needed. It also
made for the most spectacular sunset.
