Woken to a rainy grey day in Swapokmund. The staff were absolutely delighted to see
rain as it is the first rain of the year.
It is really interesting the different feeling that we have to seeing
rain though. Once the usual essential
jobs of shopping, wood, water, petrol and beer completed we headed down to
Sesriem.
On route we drive through Walvis Bay specifically to see the
flamingos in the lagoon. Last time we
visited there were none so we were really happy to see the lagoon had turned
pink with the huge flocks.
This is a road we have travelled on previously but last time
the sky was blue whereas today it was grey all the way with occasional drizzle
– just like a grey English day except it is about twenty degrees warmer. Stopped at Solitaire for tea and cake. This is our third time here and it has grown
considerably since our first visit but the cakes are still excellent.
Arrived in Sesriem to find the clouds had cleared slightly
as the hot desert air from the Namib were holding the storm clouds at bay. We had been allocated a much better campsite
than years ago with fab views of the mountains.
Our plan is to be on the road by 5 am to see the sunrise over the sand
dunes so a quick barbeque tea and an early night.
