Day 95 Spitzkoppe Rest Campsite

Woken early by the overlanders but it meant that we were on the road in good time having had a proper breakfast.  On the way out of town though we saw a lovely café that we had eaten at 5 years ago so ended up having second breakfast.  The drive to Spitzkoppe was only 90 km so we arrived by lunchtime having had a brief stop to help out a farmer and his wife (who had broken down and been stuck overnight).

Arrived at Spitzkoppe for mid-day and went in search of a nice campsite space – the campsites are spread out around the base of the mountains and have a long-drop loo but no other facilities.

We found a lovely campsite overlooking Grosse Spitzkoppe next to our own little kopjie.  The only problem was a lack of shade but we huddled under the awning to hide from the midday sun which was blazing down.  By 4 pm it was cool enough to venture out again so view some of the amazing rock formations.

We also soon lots of rock dassies and springklippers.

The sunset from our camp across the plain was as beautiful as we had hoped with the clouds from an impending storm turning a magnificent orange.
