Long drive south along bone-shaking, corrugated roads all
day. Luckily the views made up for the
roads as we passed through constantly changing mountain scenery – starting with
red mountains of Damaraland, through sandy hills and rocky kopjies and on to
views of the imposing Brandberg mountain.
We had originally planned to camp in the kopjies but decided
to push on further south to reduce the driving tomorrow. We headed to Uis which is an old tin mining
town and ended up camping at the Brandberg Rest Camp in the centre of
town. The campsite was quite basic and
had been taken over by an overland truck but in compensation it had a 25 metre
swimming pool and a pub!
Our evening got somewhat taken over by a young lad who
decided to hang out with us all evening – he was actually after $5 but got
dinner and water instead (he wolfed these down). We did finally manage to get to the pub
onsite and have a cold beer but surprisingly for a pub it shut at 9pm!
